Kaiser Permanente Can be Detrimental to Your Health

Word to the wise....If you have any type of illness that requires long-term care and management please avoid Kaiser Permanente(SCPMG).

Most consumers do not fully understand that Kaiser is not in the business of curing or treating people they are in the business of making profits and reducing operating profits. The allied health professionals lack experience and Kaiser likes to hire foreign trained medical doctors. The culture gap created between patient and care provider can be deadly.

If you are looking for a low-cost medical care plan - for basic medical care (cuts/bruises/broken bones/fever etc.) then Kaiser will fit the bill just fine. But if you have been diagonosed with a serious illness or have concerns about your future medical care - stay-away from Kaiser. You will do better finding and using an alternative health care plan.

They don't Kaiser Permanente "Killer Kaiser" for no good reason!

@Victoria Phibes, I think a lot of these doctors at Kaiser don't believe you about being allergic to or not being able to tolerate or having an otherwise bad reaction to certain meds (regardless of where they are from). For example, there is a type of medication EVERY time I have taken it, I have a bad reaction to it.

I had ended up in the ER several times with a previous insurance because of this type of med. So, I explained to the doctor's at Kaiser I have a bad reaction to this and I am ABSOLUTELY NOT going to take this type of medication. They treated me like I was bsing them and didn't believe me.

I don't understand why they can't respect patients when it comes to these things. Also, their doctors refuse to go off of the KP formulary -- I wonder if they take it out of their pay or something if they do.

Absolutely right about miscommunication training! Back in the 1990s I lived in San Diego, and had an infection.

I went to see a Kaiser doctor, and told the Indian doctor, or wherever he was from, that I was allergic to penicillin and cephalosporins. He said, "I will give you Keflex." I took it, not knowing what it was...and twenty minutes later, I was back at the emergency room at Killer Permanente, couldn't breathe, and was put on a Solu-medrol drip.

And because KP was listed as an HMO, I couldn't sue the doctor for malpractice. I hope that *** lost his license at some point.

Guest

Interesting that you mention Kaiser hiring foreign-trained doctors. I kid you not, when you look at their list of doctors on their website (complete with pictures), they are almost all female or "minority." Not that there's naything wrong with female or minority doctors, I prefer to have a female doctor, but I want a doctor who's been hired based on SKILL, not gender or skin color.

And, let me tell you, I have had to switch doctors because I could barely understand their English. They really should be required to undergo accent reduction training, because a miscommunication between doctor & patient could be quite serious.

Worst doctors, nurses, and customer service I'v ever came across!

If anyone finds a kaiser hospital that they are pleased with I would love to know where it's located. I've been going to kaiser for years. I've had a horrible condition on my skin that they are not able to diagnose and every time I visit they prescribe me the same thing rather than refer me to a specialist! I've had other encounters from rude doctors to rude representatives. When I send complaints to their human resources well, they're just as bad. Never hear from them again.. My dad once had his finger almost cut off and he waited 4 Hrs! in urgent care to be seen then another 2 hrs to get sown up! He ws scheduled for a follow up 2 days later to make sure everything was going good. We were told someone would contact us. Two days passed and when we called back my dad had missed his appointment beacuse no one called to notify us! Then they said they could only get him in as soon as one week. Whose fault is this?

I agree. Tried to walk-in on my day off, they said I need an appointment.

The only slot they had was 2 months out but after getting more vocal with them they magically had a slot on the same day.

Told them my issue, they did the *** pre-screen I've ever seen then told me someone would call with the results. They never did and when I called them they said I can't get that information over the phone...now I have to take time off work to get my results even though they have my number on file.

Kaiser changed my life, & not in a good way

To the person who indicated Kaier "might" be ok for small cuts & bruises & generally healthy people, I also thought the same until my step son needed to get a cough checked out. "He has cough induced asthma. No, it's not asmtha its a mycoplasm infection. No, well, lets just give him steroids.Oh, and this inebulizer. And let's see what else we can charge you for that won't even work since we have no clue" He's 12 & doesnt need steroids that young if you don't really know the cause! We found a Chinese Herbal doctor that fixed it. And I LOVE that Kaiser asks you to call their Customer Service before posting here! Um, yeah, that seems to be part of the problem! Every chance I get to tell people never to work for or be covered by Kaiser, I do.

Kaiser Permanente put someone else's children's info in my newborn's medical record

Kaiser Permanente Sunset(new hospital) put another woman's newborn children's information in my newborn's medical record, which by the way is permanenet(can you believe that??)and we didn't know about it until recently when a doctor started asking questions that had nothing to do with my baby.Later we discovered that it was another woman's children's info.So after calling customer service(which good luck dealing with those incompetant people)the case went from one representative to another because no one knew how to fix it!Finally I get a callback from one rep.telling me that "it's being investigated" in other words they need to buy more time to figure out how to cover their' mistake. After that I never heard from her again.I decided to get on it myself and everyday, despite my lack of sleep dealing with a baby,I spoke to more people and more people until my case got assigned a "manager" which apparently his knowledge was LIMITED ALSO....oh dear god I'm so exhausted.I also receieved a letter from them, over 30 days later with an addendum form which I have to fill out and send through snail mail so they can take ANOTHER month maybe. All this would have been fine, except for the fact that apparently in the letter it states that "the information in the medical chart cannot be changed, however you have the right to amend your records!!!What kind of system is this that they're going to let someone else's info stay in my baby's medical record FOREVER!!I have never heard of such a *** thing in my entire life, but I'm finding out that the more I stay with Kaiser Permanente, the more I'm seeing things that are wrong and unheard of,and these incompetant people get to keep their' jobs while they're at it.So many things are going on in there, someone should pay attention to these piece of works who work there.I also had very bad experiences with Dr.Kim tran in internal medicine. It's too long to list here.Maybe another day.

John,I don't even know who the state regulator is.You seem to know more about this than I do,have You contacted the state regulator?I can't believe all this information is out there and everyone knows about what Kaiser is doing, and yet nothing is being done.

pepper Hxe

Jerry Thompson oh my god, that's unbelievable. They should ALL be tested for drug use ALL the time. How the heck do these people get jobs there....maybe they're being hired by drug users themselves.

Guest

Kaiser Permanente sucks. I have solid proof that a couple of the nurses in the neonatal ward are drug users. They should be randomly drug tested.

Guest

Gdzoo, I suggest that you contact the state regulator about these serious violations of law by Kaiser Permanente. They jeopardize you and your family's safety and well-being.

Kaiser has zero intention of actually fixing their *** error. They will keep you in paperwork purgatory until you give up. Escalate this on those hypocrites and hopefully a regulator will represent your needs.

Also, from experience I suggest that you should not even bother with the California Department of Managed Healthcare... they are apparently on Kaiser's payroll.

Kaiser Permanente worst customer service

I've been calling Kaiser customer service 866-238-**** almost everyday for a week now to cancel my moms insurance policy and its bean a real pain. First of all most customer service reps are not that helpful.

The representative I spoke today 10:01 ET 01/04/10 was the worst of them, she try to ignore all my questions and attempted to hang up on me.

She was very rude.

It was also especially hard to send a fax to them, I faxed cancellation notice almost everyday and they have 2 days to verify if the fax went through. I've faxed my docs at home and thru outside fax service but when I try to verify later, they were not able to receive it.

I've had kaiser since I can remember... never met my primary doc...

appointments take 2 wks to be seen through kp.org. still not convinced sorry

Guest

Looks like the Kaiser apologists/defenders have arrived. So, are you clowns employed by Campbell-Ewald?

Guest

:grin - do you really expect people to believe that you've been waiting for over a year to get an appointment at Kaiser?

Guest

Dear "WORST"....BTW, you can cancel appointments the same way.

Guest

Dear "Kaiser is the WORST."

I work for Kaiser. Here's a tip.

Log on to KP.org and set-up access to member services. It takes a few minutes. Then go to the appointments section of our website, enter your providers name and the system will find the next available appointment. I schedule every appt.

with my doctor on-line and order all my prescriptions on line. Try it...:-)

Guest

I've been trying to get an appointment with my primary doctor for over a year now. No luck.

I requested a transfer to another Kaiser doctor -- request denied. We pay over $1400/mo.

for this *** service. Kaiser is the WORST Health Insurance in AMERICA !!!!

Incompetent Administritive Management At Woodland Hills, CA

Someone needs to check out assistant evening/night administrator-Betsy Diep. She lies and makes numerous attempts to intimidate the emergency room staff.

Despite numerous complaints to administration, they continue to let her continue her destructive behavior. She refuses to help the nurses when they are short staff. She recently stated that the nurses should break each other eventhough they were short two nurses. Someone speak out and help!!!!!

This person needs to be stopped before another patient is compromised by her incompetentcy. She has no emergency room experience, but was still hired by administration.

The emergency room needs help!

Unfortunately, Kaiser also hires their own, I mean family members! Filipino, mothers, brothers daughters, sons, ugh Nepotism in its entirety!

Guest

Record Kaiser. Make it viral. Use your cell phone, put a recorder on your phone, or carry a hand held recorder.

If Kaiser will not cooperate-MAKE THEM

Youtube is your friend. Learn it.

I can help if you'd like. I used to live in Southern California.

Signed...fellow Kaiser hater whose life is in jeopardy because of their garbage.

Anyone know of a good lawyer?

Guest

I work in one of Kaiser's ICU. We have nearly 60% Philipinos as staff RNs in the iCU.

Out of eight RN managers over the ICU RN, six are Philipinos. They speak to each other in Tagalog at the detriment of the patients and other staff members.

They stick together covering each others back as needed. The work together to eliminate non-Filipinos that they collectively do not like.

Kaiser management is aware of the problem, but they tolerate it. The hospital is rapidly evolving into a Filipino empire.

I read your note and I must say right away that I understand your frustration! Wow, how annoying indeed! But, the good news is that I came across a website the other day called hellopeter.com

This website is amazing! IT allows for customers to write about their experiences, and then the companies responsible are forced (by way of social conscience!) to respond. There is some closure that can be got. So try out hellopeter.com - it is free and you can write about any company.

The Emergency Room staff 19 years ago were very nice. I had stictches put in my head.

Guest

This lady is dangerous. I have seen her incompetency.

She does not have any emergency room experience.

She does know how to irritate the staff. She has to know that the entire emergency room staff hates her guts!

Dr. insisted nothing wrong with stomach! later found I was 8wks preg.

I was seeing Dr. Johnson for years concerning stomach pains. Was told to stop eating salt, change diet. prescribed pills(no effect). Went to this Dr. for yrs. 2006 complained of stomach pains, extreme fatigue, breast pain, nausea etc. Ask for referral to see a specialist, was told I needed to see a behavior specialist because he said "There is something going on at home" no real physical prob. and he wouldn't authorize an immediate appt. Saw a Dr. 2wks later who said I was 8wks preg. She didn't understand How he could have "done every test there is' according to him! Now that I know the symptoms of pregnancy, I believe that I was pregnant another time before. I could go on about the horrific treatment or should I say non-treatment of this branch. Five years later, still suffering from chronic heart burn and girds. Cant afford to go outside of Kaiser and cant afford not to. misery!

Kaiser want give copy of rx

My kaiser insurance expired last week. I called today to get a "written" copy of my rx, (blood pressure Med.) which dosn't expire untill 12-08. I was told that because I'm no longer covered, my presciption is no longer valid. How can this be? My prescription is good until 12-08 and was paid for when it was written! I had nothing but problems with this insurance since day-one. Im in the medical field I should have known from prvious experience with them. Please dont be fooled by the low rates. They change like the wind

Refused to fill prescription until I came in

My doctor sent a prescription to Kaiser Cadillac Pharmacy on 9/22. On 9/24, I checked its status. While told by Paige that the doctor had called it in, it would not be filled until I arrived. The medication allows me to be productive. I inquired if it could be filled while enroute and was told, "no." Unable to work yesterday, 9/25, I had to wait until said med was picked up. Pharmacy clerks need to be educated on the side effects of some of the more dangerous medications. Certain meds only stay in the body for short periods.

Kaiser Permanente Nurse and Doctor at Woodland Hills Sucks

I had a terrible experience with Kaiser Permanente Hosiptal at Woodland Hills. A intern nurse (called Lenoard) who is an old guy and fell asleep while I was walking to the blood drawn room withdrew blood. Dr. Yvonne Trilling there denied it was their fault and gave me a strong painkiller called Iburprofen to heal the pain on my arm. My stomach got acid reflex after taking the anti-inflammatory pills. I had chest pain after taking the medication. I called the nurse line and they told me there was no doctor available right away. They told me to wait. This telephone call has ruined the best thing in my life - my health.

I went to see Urgent Care in Woodland Hills. Doctor there has not properly understood my situation. They gave me pepcid for two months. I didn't know why they gave me two months medication. They didn't tell me I had acid reflex. They just said I had inflammation of Esophagus and gastritis. They didn't know how to properly diagnose. My stomach was ruined by Kaiser and I had fight with my ex finance just because of that and that has ruined my relationship with him. We were supposed to get marrried last year in August. I have broker up with him as we fought about the fact that Kaiser doctor was not professional. I was so depressed with the situation (my arms are still painful).

As a conclusion, due to the joining of Kaiser insurance for the first time, it has ruined my health, my career and my marriage and loss of my income as I am a CPA and graduated from USC in 1997.

Please tell all of your friends and family members not to join Kaiser at all for the rest of life. Please boycott Kaiser Permanente. It will make your life miserable. They are not responsible for their fault.

If you don't believe, I will give you the details more by emailing me at ilei2008@***.com. Thanks.

I don't trust Kaiser with my health nor my family's. Most of their doctors are uneducated and arrogant.

Mistakes are the only things that Thrive in this company. Your health is the last thing they care about...for them it is all about making money.

If they make medical mistakes, good luck fighting them in court as they don't think anything is their fault. Kaiser is a very nasty and dishonest company...

Guest

Just an FYI- ibuprofen is nothing more than advil- the stuff you buy over the counter and definitely NOT a "strong pain killer". It is used for pain and it's anti-inflammatory properties, but it wouldn't cause acid reflux...that's something you likely had before you took the medicine, although the medicine may have irritated the stomach, especially if you hadn't eaten before taking the medicine.

Guest

I absolutely despise Kaiser. This has been my hospital for 19 years now (I'm 19, and unfortunately have no choice for the time being), and every single experience whether it be from the ER to my PCP or to a specialist has ALWAYS been ***. *** Kaiser.

Guest

I lost my sweet brother yesterday at the young age of 60 after a 3 1/2 month stay at Kaiser Panorama City. His wife had taken him to the ER twice for a swollen abdomen and both times my brother was sent home.

The situation quickly deteriorated to him having dangerously low blood pressure so his wife quickly took him to a local (NON KAISER) hospital. He was treated, improved and stayed for 2 weeks at which time Kaiser felt he was stable enough to come to their death house. He had done well the initial 2 weeks BK (before Kaiser) and declined as soon as he was admitted. Doctors could not get a handle on his case and as they change your doctor every week (which is the STUPIDEST policy I've ever heard of) no one was with my brother long enough to help him.

We all felt each doctor was simply maintaining him until he was off their rotation. Finally one doctor had seen enough and was determined to find what the remaining reason was for his declining health. He was a wonderful doctor and did discover the problem. By then my brother had become very weak and altho' he did survive the surgery and first 9 days he kept getting weaker and sadly we lost him.

He and his wife had no children so she is all alone now and overcome with grief.

She feels guilty she ever chose Kaiser for their medical plan but it was what they could afford. Now she feels it cost her her spouse.

Guest

Kaiser is merely giving you what one would expect from a pre-paid system... generic medications and shabby service.

Guest

I encountered the very same Ms. Diep.

I found her condesending and arrougant. She chastized the staff and from the reaction I saw from the staff they disliked her greatly. Ms. Diep had no idea what she was doing.

My family member required an iv. Ms. Diep poked her so many times I had to stop her. Ms.

Diep proclaimed that she was the professional and knew what she was doing. What kind of idiots do they hire at Woodland Hills Kaiser!

Guest

I am an employee at Woodland Hills. There is an manager in the emergency room named Betsy Diep.

She proceeded to do an ekg on a patient, only to find out from the emergency room doctor that she did it incorrectly. She professes to be a "Trauma Nurse". I thought trauma nurses knew how to do a simple 12 lead ekg and place the leads in a the correct places-not a 7 lead ekg-in all the wrong places.

Management does not seem to care. After all, they must protect their own.

I use to work for kp. The whole company is a mess.

Horrible computer system as well as phone system. They hire ua lot of uneducated people to run their health care departments and that's why the left hand never knows what the right hand is doing. Im so glad I no longer work for them.

Their Thrive message is a joke and anything but the truth. Health doesnt THRIVE under kaiser...it DIVES.

Guest

The doctor treated me well with respect and did a good job cleaning my head and putting in the stitches! I arrived to the emergency room around 9:00 p.m.

and didn't leave until after 3:00 a.m.

When I first arrived the nurse took my blood pressure than took me to a room across from the nurses station where a male nurse shaved my head? After he was done he moved me to another bed across the room where the doctor did his thing.

Guest

I was at Kaiser in Woodland Hills back in 1990 in the Emergency Room. I had stitches put in my head.
