For two years as I cared for my mother her health began declining. Stomach issues, pain, diarrhea, then rapid weight loss and could no longer eat.
I begged her PP to refer us to a specialist and he continued to tell us to do ridiculous remedies, as in don’t chew gum, don’t drink from straws, take Imodium (forever) and never referred us until she was nearly a shadow of her former self. I had to have her rushed to Emergency 2 days after her birthday for life saving surgery. Her bowel had ruptured and she was septic. She never recovered and passed away six days later.
I tried to launch an investigation but it was done by the physician’s peers and it was concluded that her physician did his job within Kaiser’s outlines.
I will never forgive or forget the suffering my mother’s primary physician caused only because he refused to consider there could be a very serious problem. My heart is broken and I’m having a hard time going forward.
